Lennard van Ruiven Joins the IT4Kids Advisory Board

IT4Kids is pleased to welcome Lennard van Ruiven, Director of Football Development at the KNVB, as a new member of the Advisory Board. In an interview, we discussed his background, his passion for sports, and his motivation to make a social contribution through IT4Kids. Lennard brings valuable experiences and knowledge, along with a strong commitment to sports and the development of children.

Lennard van Ruiven lives in Oud-Beijerland with his wife and two sons, and in his free time, he enjoys playing padel. Sports have always been central to his life, both personally and professionally. As Director of Football Development at the KNVB, he is involved in everything related to youth football development in the Netherlands. His ambition to help children develop through sports began at a young age: “I started as a football coach for the youngest youth teams when I was fifteen. Sports offer so many benefits,” he says. “It promotes teamwork, self-confidence, and enjoyment, among other things. I want to pass on these values, not only to my own children but to all children I can help.”

What does your work at the KNVB involve? “In my role as Director of Football Development, I focus on various aspects of the sport and work on improving and innovating football in the Netherlands. This applies to both top-level and grassroots football. Additionally, I think about the future of football: how can we continue to innovate the sport and ensure that it remains accessible to everyone, allowing everyone to play football for a lifetime?”

Although Lennard often finds himself further away from the field in his current role, the practical side remains important to him. “It’s wonderful to see how children develop with joy, both as footballers and as individuals. That’s ultimately what it’s all about: helping children develop in all areas.”

Why did you choose IT4Kids? “I’ve always had the ambition to contribute to society alongside my work. In the past, I did this as a volunteer with sports clubs and as a coach for my sons’ teams, but in recent years, I’ve been looking for a way to apply my knowledge and experience more broadly. I had a conversation with Marco Hoogerland (a member of IT4Kids’ Advisory Board), and that’s when IT4Kids came into my path.” The mission of IT4Kids, to provide as many children as possible with a positive experience through sports, immediately resonated with him. His ambition aligns perfectly with IT4Kids’ mission. “Sports can create new opportunities and equip children with skills they will carry throughout their lives. If I can help provide children with a positive sports experience, by utilizing my network and experience in the sports world, I am more than happy to do so.”

What do you hope to achieve at IT4Kids? “With my experience and network in the sports world, I hope to open new doors, for example, at amateur clubs or other sports organizations. I also enjoy thinking creatively about new initiatives. We are currently working on a football concept alongside sports clubs to contribute positively to the goals of IT4Kids.”

“I hope to make a valuable contribution from a small role. IT4Kids is growing and thriving, and if I can contribute to that alongside the team, it would be fantastic. As a team player, I look forward to collaborating with everyone to realize the foundation’s goals.”
